We had intended to go for a 5 or 6 mile hike around Mt. Rainier while visiting Seattle and Portland over the last week, but were detoured towards Crystal Mountain for lunch. This ultimately led us to a 10 minute gondola ride up Crystal Mountain, approximately 6400 ft above sea level — and this breathtaking view. It was a perfectly clear and hot day, and I suspect this view is vastly superior than what we may have seen from our original destination. It certainly made up for a visit to Mt. Shasta a few days earlier which was disrupted due to unexpected and intense rain.
