Through Lines 118
While there’s some aspects of The Line I’m skeptical of, I have to say that I found myself excited and fascinated at least by a vision of a future city built upon an entirely different kind of human and environment-focused point of view.
- I love the idea of Guillermo del Toro taking on the story of Pinocchio. This looks like it could be something special.
- I’d love to see LEGO add a greater variety of personalization features in their new Minifigure Factory but it’s already kind of fun.
- Speaking of LEGO, this custom Cucumber Log House factory model is next level crazy.
- I’m going to file this one away for future reference so we can look back on it in a couple years and see how things are playing out. The “more open, cheaper alternative”… Mm hmm.
- Is it me or the algorithm? It’s increasingly hard to tell who’s in charge of our online experiences today or to even know how to feel about it.
- A handy Google Docs tip that I have needed on far too many occasions.
- Lots to explore and love in Anthony Burrill’s new open library of over 500 pieces of low-fi design ephemera.
- I find it pretty hard to find fault with John Maeda on his one secret to a successful career but I would say that same secret might equally apply to one’s life as a whole.
- A lengthy and deep look and interview with Tamara Segura, Fernanda Cozzi, and Krutika Shah, the 2022 Malee Scholarship finalists from Sharp Type.
- Yet again, how's that web3 thing going?
- This is how you use art to get people to pay attention. Powerful indeed.
- RIP James Lovelock.
Notable Type Releases
- Calvino Grande from Zetafonts, a 2021 release that I apparently just discovered caught my attention for its name (I’m a big fan of the writing of Italo Calvino) but I was won over by its beautiful, elegant calligraphic character.
- Sudtipos’ new Hopfen is a very German-inspired type family that would certainly do well in branding or expressive signage applications with the variety of ligatures and swashes included throughout.
- Gnar. I mean what else is there to say?
